Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Services Management

  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of clinical policies, protocols, and procedures to ensure high-quality healthcare services.
  • Oversee the administration of medical and surgical services to enhance patient care and safety.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical performance indicators and outcomes to ensure continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with national and international healthcare regulations, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Lead quality assurance initiatives, risk management, and patient safety programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the operations of specialized medical units and centers of excellence.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Develop and implement training programs for healthcare professionals, including continuous medical education (CME) and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with medical training institutions, universities, and regulatory bodies to enhance the training and accreditation of healthcare practitioners.
  • Establish internship, residency, and fellowship programs to enhance clinical competence and specialization.
  • Promote mentorship and career development programs for clinical staff.

Research and Innovation

  • Develop and oversee research programs aligned with institutional and national healthcare priorities.
  • Foster collaboration with academic and research institutions for clinical trials, health research, and evidence-based practice.
  • Ensure ethical approval, compliance, and adherence to research guidelines and regulations.
  • Promote innovation in medical technologies, procedures, and treatment modalities.
  • Secure funding and partnerships for research and development initiatives.

Strategic Leadership and Governance

  • Provide advisory support to senior management and board of directors on clinical, training, and research matters.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and financial sustainability.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to enhance service integration and patient-centered care.
  • Develop policies and strategic plans to improve institutional performance in clinical services, training, and research.
  • Engage with government agencies, donors, and partners to advance healthcare objectives.

Requirements for appointment

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Master’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health, Health Management, Medical Education, Clinical Medicine, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in clinical services, medical training, and/or research, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Registration and licensure with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) or other relevant professional bodies.
  • Certification in healthcare leadership, administration, or quality management is an added advantage.
  • More than 2 years’ experience in management position in a busy hospital/university setup
