Our passion for 'Do it now' fuels innovation and learning, driving our commitment to improve healthcare access in Africa.About the RoleThe Clinical Officer at the Ilara Health Clinic will be responsible for the overall coordination of health activities and supervision of the staff. He /she will closely work and support the Health Manager in ensuring the routine services and management of the clinics are effectively provided. He/She will work closely with the Pharmacy Technologist, Nurses, Lab Technologist, Community Health Officers, Nutritionists and others in ensuring quality health services are provided to the patients. He/she will also provide support in the clinic as needed, and ensure coverage both day and night.
Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment and Diagnosis:
- Take or review patients' medical history to determine appropriate clinical examinations, laboratory investigations, and treatment plans.
- Order investigations and interpret results for diagnosis, explaining findings and treatment options to patients.
- Treatment and Referral:
- Diagnose conditions and initiate suitable treatment plans, ensuring adherence to Ilara Health protocols.
- Refer patients to other departments or higher-level care facilities for further investigations or specialized treatment when necessary.
- Attend to emergencies presenting at the clinic, making recommendations for urgent referrals as needed.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient observations, prescribed treatments, and procedures in the Ilara Health Electronic Medical Records system.
- Conduct minor surgeries and procedures following Ilara Health guidelines.
- Adhere to clinical procedures, regulations, and infection control standards as per Ilara Health protocols and Ministry of Health guidelines.
- Patient Engagement and Education:
- Provide counseling and health talks to patients on preventive and promotive health measures, creating positive patient experiences.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient data and information at all times.
- Administrative Duties and Professional Development:
- Prepare weekly reports and participate in clinic meetings to discuss patient care and operational matters.
- Ensure clinic safety and compliance with infection control standards.
- Actively participate in clinical training programs and skill-building activities, including on-the-job training.
- Community Engagement and Outreach:
- Participate in outreaches, medical camps, health talks, and community programs to extend healthcare services and education to the community.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Conduct rapid laboratory tests and dispense medication to clients in the absence of a laboratory technician or pharmacy technologist.
- Conduct tele-guidance imaging when necessary.
Requirements
- Diploma in Clinical medicine and surgery from a recognized institution or Bachelors degree in clinical medicine and surgery from a recognized institution
- Registered with Clinical Officers Council and have a valid practicing license
- Minimum of 1 years of work experience after internship in a hospital setup and 3 years work experience in an outpatient facility
